Weiser River Hootenanny

May 6, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Saturday, May 6, 2017: 4:00-7:00 pm. The “Weiser River Hootenanny” is a celebration of the Weiser River and Trail. Plan to float the river or ride the trail with friends and family, then meet at the Presley Trailhead outside Weiser for a potluck celebration.

Get Ready for the Weiser River Hootenanny!

WEISER – The Idaho Conservation League, Friends of the Weiser River Trail, Idaho Organization of Resource Councils, Weiser River Resource Council and Whitewater River Chicks have partnered up to celebrate the Weiser River and Trail.

With a 22-mile accessible river stretch and an 85-mile biking, hiking and horse-packing trail, the Weiser River and Trail are southwestern Idaho recreational gems.  Despite that, the State of Idaho continues to propose a new 282-foot dam on the free-flowing Weiser River. The dam would flood 15 river miles and dozens of family farms, and attempt to relocate the trail.  Promoting awareness and protection of this little-known treasure, Hootenanny organizers encourage people to build a day or full weekend around the event.

The event, open to the public, begins with people floating the Class II river or riding the trail on their own.  Afterward, they will meet event sponsors at the Presley Trailhead parking lot for music, drinks, food and socializing.  The event runs 4:00–7:00 pm.  Participants are encouraged to bring camp chairs and a dish to share; beverages are provided.

For more information on the Weiser River—including boating map and directions—visit http://www.idahoconservation.org/events/plan-your-own-adventure/weiser-river or contact the Idaho Conservation League’s community engagement associate Lana Weber (208)345.6933 x 16 or lweber@idahoconservation.org.

How to get there: to get to Presley Trailhead heading north on Highway 95 in Weiser, continue past Main Street to Park Street.  Turn right onto Park Street, which becomes Weiser River Road outside of town. Drive east approximately 6 miles. The road will narrow and wind around corners and cattle feedlots. Turn right onto Unity Road when the road forks. The trail will intersect Unity Road in approximately 1/4 mile. At the Unity Road fork, turn left and continue for approximately 4  miles. The trail will parallel the road most of the way.  The pavement ends at the Galloway Diversion Dam.  You’ll find Presley Trailhead approximately 1 mile ahead on the left.
